Research Controls

Two organization-wide settings govern what the research agent can reach when it looks beyond your own documents. They apply to every member, so set them to match your firm's policy.

Web Search domain filtering and Knowledge Bases controls live on the Organization Settings page.

Your documents come first

The research agent always works from your project's own documents first. It researches the web and draws on external knowledge bases only where appropriate (to fill a gap, add context, or corroborate a finding), and your source documents remain the authority. These controls bound what it can reach when it does.

Where to set them

Both live in Settings → Organization and are editable by owners and admins. Changes apply across the whole organization.

Web Search Settings

Controls which websites the research agent may use. Pick a Filter Mode:

  • Exclude domains: block the domains you list, allow everything else.
  • Restrict to domains: allow only the domains you list, block everything else.
  1. Choose the mode that matches your policy.
  2. Type a domain into Domains and click Add; it appears as a tag (remove one with its X).
  3. Click Save Search Settings.

Which mode to use

Use Exclude to keep the open web but bar a few sources (e.g. competitors or low-quality sites). Use Restrict when research must stay within an approved allow-list of trusted domains.

Knowledge Bases

Controls which external knowledge bases the research agent may draw on. Each one has its own toggle, and the header switch (All enabled / {n}/{total} enabled) turns them all on or off at once. Toggles take effect immediately; there's no separate save.

See Knowledge bases for what each one covers and how to request additional sources.
