Google Drive Integration

Keep your source documents in Google Drive and let LithicBlue mirror a Shared Drive into your projects, so Drive stays the single source of truth and files stay in sync automatically.

How it works

LithicBlue connects to your Google Workspace through a service account with domain-wide delegation. Your Workspace administrator authorises the connection once for the whole organisation, then individual Shared Drives can be connected to projects. Access always respects your existing Drive permissions, so each person only sees the files they can already open.

Who can set this up

Step 1 must be done by a Google Workspace super administrator (access to admin.google.com). Step 2 can be done by any LithicBlue user who signed in with their Google account.

Before you start

  • You are signed in to LithicBlue with your Google account (not email/password). Drive settings are only available to Google-identity users.
  • A Google Workspace super-admin is available to authorise the connection once.
  • The documents you want to use live in a Google Shared Drive.

Step 1: Authorise the workspace (admin, once)

Open Settings → Google Drive in LithicBlue. The page shows the exact Client ID and OAuth scopes your organisation needs. Copy them from there rather than this page, as they are specific to your environment. Then:

  1. Go to admin.google.com → Security → API controls → Manage Domain-wide Delegation.
  2. Click Add new.
  3. Paste the Client ID shown on the LithicBlue settings page.
  4. Paste the OAuth scopes shown on the settings page, comma-separated.
  5. Click Authorize.
  6. Back in LithicBlue, confirm the setup. Verification runs as your own LithicBlue account, so that account must be a user in the Workspace you are connecting. When verification succeeds you will see a green check on Step 1.

Propagation can take a few minutes

Google can take a little while to apply a new delegation. If verification fails immediately after authorising, wait a few minutes and try again.

Step 2: Connect a Shared Drive

Once the workspace is verified, the Connected Shared Drives section unlocks. Connect the drive that holds your source documents and LithicBlue will mirror its folder structure and keep it in sync. Each connected drive shows its status (Active, Revoked, or Error) and the time of its last sync.

From a project, map a folder in the connected drive to that project. Edits are made in Drive and flow through to LithicBlue, so there is always one authoritative copy of every document.

Troubleshooting

  • “Sign in with your Google account.” You are signed in with email/password. Sign out and sign back in with Google to manage Drive.
  • A drive shows “Error.” Open the drive in settings to read the error message. The most common cause is a permission change in Drive; re-checking the share and re-syncing usually resolves it.
  • A drive shows “Revoked.” The delegation or share was withdrawn. Re-authorise in Step 1, or re-share the drive, then reconnect.
